Germany                   Bundesweiter Warntag         11 September 2025


   Like any other decent German on the nationwide warning systems test
   day, I'm filling out the survey on the official website about what I
   thought of the performance and what could be improved.  It contains
   the question: "Wovon waren Sie in der Vergangenheit schon einmal
   unmittelbar selbst betroffen?", which you could translate as "what
   from this list have you personally experienced?"  And for me,
   unfortunately, the option that fits is "a situation in which it is
   necessary to leave home quickly and not return for a long time".

   When I was leaving my home in Ozyory back in September three years
   ago, I had absolutely no idea at the time that the absence would last
   for years, and might, perhaps, never end at all.  So it goes.
