Germany Dresden 10 November 2024 I've visited this city before, and more than once. As fate would have it, I decided to visit it again today. Wolfen, where I've been living since the beginning of this year, was once again shrouded in pungent fog when I awoke this morning. Interestingly, unlike last time when it cleared by noon, today's fog has persisted: the German Weather Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst) has even issued a warning that this phenomenon will continue until at least eleven o'clock tomorrow morning. It's wonderful: I love it when everything is enveloped in fog, transforming all the ordinary, somewhat tiresome views into a mysterious natural spectacle. Most remarkably, one needs only to venture a short distance from the city for the fog to vanish completely. Would you believe it - I'm writing this note on a train again, making my way to Jeßnitz station via two major cities: Chemnitz and Leipzig. I could have opted for the direct train to Leipzig, but firstly, it was already packed to the rafters, and secondly, I fancied another ride on the vintage train from Chemnitz. I'd travelled on it during daylight hours, but never after nightfall. This oversight needed immediate correction. I shan't drag this note out any longer, but I'll just add that Dresden today is also immersed in fog, and upon my arrival, it was fascinating to observe how the sunny journey from Chemnitz abruptly gave way to Dresden's foggy vistas, as if I were entering another world entirely. In such moments, I catch myself wishing tomorrow wouldn't bring back the sunlight outside my window. Copyright (c) 2024 contact@renecoignard.com Powered by Weblog v1.18.4
