Germany Falkenstein 10 August 2025 Alright, Falkenstein. A small town in the Vogtland district. How did I end up here? I keep a list of towns to visit on weekends, and I periodically pick a random one from this list when the mood strikes. At some point, Falkenstein made its way onto the list: one of my prod servers is located there, so I thought it would be nice to pay my comrade a visit when I had the chance. The internet also promised me some magnificent nature here, which was just what I needed after a recent illness. The town turned out to be truly wonderful. I don't think I've ever enjoyed visiting random towns in Germany this much. Of course, a lot of factors came together, without which I would have had a completely different impression of the town, and one of those factors was the weather: even when changing trains at Mehltheuer station for the train to Falkenstein, I could feel that the sun was scorching, as it is everywhere right now, but at the same time, the air was very fresh and cool. Upon arrival at my destination, I was greeted by the same weather conditions. I didn't have a goal of getting right inside the Hetzner data centre, although it seems like there is such a possibility: they sometimes offer tours. My German should be good enough by now to take part in something like that. In any case, I wanted to take a look at the building from the outside, and I checked on the maps where it was located. It was on the edge of town, and on my way there, I managed to spot a large, beautiful pond, a bunch of picturesque places with beautiful trees, a cornfield, and a forest in the distance. The building turned out to be colossal and fenced off, as if it were a military object. It was an unusual feeling when I was walking past it. I've never been so close to my servers, except for the time I was in Munich, and that's it. Although, in the past, a ProLiant server from HP, which lived at my home back then, served me well, but we parted ways a long time ago. By the way, I decided it would be amusing to connect to my server in Falkenstein while being in Falkenstein. So I did, it was fun. Though, it wasn't a direct connection, but through a server in the Czech Republic where WireGuard is running. But who cares. Anyway. Even though it took almost five hours to get to Falkenstein one way, I'm already used to such outings and, having my laptop, charger, and phone with me, there's always something to do. Yes, for example, at least writing the note I'm working on right now. I think I'll come back here again, and more than once: plus, from Falkenstein you can get to the Czech Republic; I'm making a note of that for myself. It's so unusually beautiful here that I would move here to live with great pleasure. The trip turned out wonderful, the day and the weather were excellent, the nature is beautiful, the data centre is red and huge. Was für ein Spaß!
