France Strasbourg 31 December 2024 As part of our final European travels before New Year's, my friends and I headed to France, to the border city of Strasbourg. As usual, we woke up at five in the morning, caught a train and reached our destination via Karlsruhe and Appenweier. I must admit that upon arrival I unexpectedly felt at home: all those endless signs and shop fronts in French simply left me no choice but to feel otherwise. While the architecture might have resembled German style in places, France was easily recognisable by the shutters positioned on the outside of house windows. The Strasbourg Cathedral is visible from almost any point in the city, and we managed to visit it as well. From the outside, it looks absolutely colossal. And from the inside too. Here's all you need to know about how wonderful the city is: over the course of the day, I walked a good thirty kilometres in total, and was almost constantly on the move, as there was no time to get bored. In the evening, they switched on the street illuminations: it looked simply magnificent, especially when compared to Berlin, Stuttgart or my current city of residence.
